Robert V. Binder has joined Olenick & Associates' Chicago office as its Director of Innovation. An internationally recognized high-assurance thought-leader and serial entrepreneur, he adds a unique dimension to OA’s broad service offerings and will work to extend its strategy and brand.
Binder has developed hundreds of application systems and advanced automated testing solutions, including two projects released as open source. He recently played key roles in regulatory compliance for the technology space, including a model-based testing solution that resolved Microsoft’s ten-year supervision under a Federal consent decree. As CEO and founder of a test automation startup, he took an advanced mobile app testing technology to market. Prior to this, he lead a global consulting practice in software process and advanced software testing for fifteen years.
He is the author of the definitive Testing Object-Oriented Systems: Models, Patterns, and Tools and two other books. His 58 articles in leading publications and peer-reviewed journals have been cited over 2,100 times. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Software Testing, Verification, and Review and served on Agitar Software’s advisory board. Binder is a Co-director of the newly founded Internet Assurance Lab at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a member of the ANSI X9 D14 working group developing a standard for quality management systems in the automated and high-frequency trading space. Binder is a sought-after keynote speaker for events like the Google Test Automation Conference and IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering.
Olenick & Associates had a presence at this year’s International Legal Technology Association’s Annual Conference, held in National Harbor, Maryland. This event draws more than 2500 people from law firms, corporate legal departments, and the vendors who cater to them. Olenick was fortunate to present in two breakout sessions.
The first was a demonstration and open discussion regarding the Legal Systems Test Repository, which is sponsored by Olenick. That session was presented by Andrea Warner, Rick Lesley, and Bill Mertes. The second was a two hour, hands-on tutorial, of Windows PowerShell presented by Dave Kuhl. Dave Lindley also attended the conference. In addition to our excellently delivered presentations, much general networking and marketing was performed. Mark Behrens, Valentin Lavrenyuk, Peggy Schretter and Kevin Flynn are the O&A representatives at the conference. The conference includes sessions and classes with HP architects and engineers, meeting with our HP internal and external sales representatives, and the O&A team attending over 50 separate sessions (out of several hundred) on HP technology and innovation. These sessions include the latest features of the HP tool set that many of use every day (LoadRunner 11.5, Quality Center, ALM, Quick Test Professional, etc) as well as HP customer success stories.
The conference is interesting as it demonstrates HP’s focus on innovation, mobility, cloud services, information, and security.

In addition to the HP booths, classes, HP software, hardware and vendor demonstrations and networking on the show floor, there were also several very interesting technology demonstrations including the attached generated jpg image /holograph during one of the Autonomy keynote sessions using a tablet with a very impressive QR Code type image reader and 3D projector.
